Élise Toïdé is a French photographer whose first edition It will be long clear tonight was published by Eyd in 2019 collection LOCI. Equipped with its 24x36, Toïdé captures special moments with her discreet sensitivity, giving free rein to everyone's imagination to detect a feeling or an adventure and in larger sense borrowed from the Romanticism how she turns her gaze outwards.
I am drawn to suspended moments, floating moments, the work of memory. The memory of places, of childhood, the imprint of memories, reinvented, subject to interpretation, such as dreams. I am looking for links between the visible world and the inner world.
For her first book Elise Toïdé chose the Parc des Guilands located between Montreuil and Bagnolet. Since 2013, the beginning of this project, the horizon has changed, nature spread, facades cladding has been renovated as the view densified.
The photographer becomes absorbed "in knowing little by little a territory and in capturing its fleeting emotions, like a portrait". This gives his frontal shots a “poetic naturalism”. Two words that François Mauriac used to describe the verses of Anna de Noailles, these “admirable cries of a pythia on a tripod” which, in 1901, tasted the shadows and watched for carps in Parc Monceau. Monceau, Montreuil. A century and a decade. An east-west trip in Paris to bring together the dazzling views of two women who retain the landscapes where they have their habits. And yet something is changed in life. (...) Magali Aubert
